Time is Money...Spend it Wisely
Figure out how to optimize your time so that every minute contributes to your bottom line.
Hi reader,
We’ve all heard this one before: Time is money.
But how often do we really apply this way of thinking to the day-to-day of running our businesses?
As we head into a new year, I want to challenge you to take a long, hard look at where your time is actually going. And more importantly, to figure out if it's actually helping you make more money.
Today’s advice to grow your business
Stop wasting time on low-value tasks that don't directly impact your bottom line.
It's easy to get sucked into the vortex of "busy work." We tell ourselves that tweaking our Instagram feed for the hundredth time or agonizing over the perfect shade of blue for our logo is a productive use of time. But are these things actually increasing your profits? In most cases, even if they do have an impact, it takes an insane amount of time and effort to see results.
Instead, start treating your time like it's the most valuable asset in your business (because it is). Prioritize tasks that directly impact your profits, and ruthlessly cut out the rest.
Here’s how this will benefit you
You'll accelerate your revenue growth and see faster results.
When you prioritize tasks that directly impact your revenue, you're essentially cutting out the fat and focusing on the muscle. Every action you take, every decision you make, is geared towards generating income. This laser focus allows you to make significant strides in less time.
Here’s another way to think about it: instead of scattering your energy across a dozen different tasks with minimal impact, you're channeling all your efforts into the few activities that matter. This concentrated effort leads to quicker wins, faster growth, and a more profitable business overall.
You'll build a more sustainable and scalable business model.
This is where things get really interesting. What if your business could run smoothly even when you’re not there overseeing everything?
Reprioritizing your time will help you identify the core functions that drive your business forward. This allows you to systematize those functions, document processes, and potentially even delegate them to others.
This is how you escape the trap of constantly putting out fires. You'll be able to step back from the day-to-day grind and actually have the time and mental space to focus on bigger-picture strategy.
Your first step
Identify your top 3 revenue-generating activities.
Grab a pen and paper (or a note-taking app) and jot down the three activities that have the biggest impact on your revenue. These are the things that directly lead to sales, bring in new clients, or increase your profits.
Maybe it's networking, nurturing your existing customers, finally giving your website a refresh, or something else entirely. Whatever it is, identify those top 3 activities and commit to prioritizing them this week. Make sure they get your best time and energy. Everything else can wait.
As we wrap up another year, this is the perfect time to rethink your priorities.
Bonus points if you reply to this email and tell me your 3 things. Sometimes, just the act of writing it down (and telling someone else) helps you stay accountable.
Best,
Jono
