Hi reader,

If you’re reading this, you probably use email pretty frequently. I would venture to say all of us small business owners do. Which is good, because email is still one of the best ways to make money.

But if you’re sending most of your emails to clients and leads manually, you’re probably spending way more time on it than you need to (and missing out on some massive sales opportunities.)

Today’s advice to grow your business

Set up an automated welcome email sequence.

There are a lot of different types of email automations out there. But there's one that every business needs, no matter what you're selling or how big you are: a welcome sequence.

This is exactly what it sounds like: a series of emails that automatically welcome new subscribers to your list. Someone signs up on your website, or through a lead magnet, or at your physical shop, and boom – they start receiving these emails.

The key word here is automatically. You set it up once, and it runs in the background, greeting every new subscriber without you having to lift a finger.

Here’s how this will benefit you

You'll convert more subscribers into paying customers.

Automated emails get 199% higher click-through rates than standard, manually sent emails.

A timely, automated welcome email hits them while they're still engaged, while your business is top of mind. They're much more likely to click through and check out your products or services right then and there.

Plus, automated welcome emails get 199% higher click-through rates than other emails. That's nearly double the clicks to your sales pages, product listings, or special offers – meaning nearly double the chance to convert that interest into actual sales.

You'll quickly establish your brand as a go-to resource

A welcome sequence is your chance to showcase your expertise and become a trusted source of information for your audience. You can share your very best content, advice, resources, or anything else of value. Suddenly, you're not just another business; you're the go-to expert they can rely on.

This positions you perfectly for long-term success. When they need a product or service like yours, you’ll be the first person they think of. And that means less selling you have to do down the line.

Your first step

Set up a welcome sequence in your preferred email marketing platform.

For starters, you’ll need a CRM or an Email Marketing Platform (EMP.) If you’re looking for one that’s easy to use, I always recommend Beehiiv to my clients.

Once you’re in, setting up an automation is usually pretty straightforward. Most platforms have guides and tutorials to help you get started (Here’s a helpful video if you’re using Beehiiv: Tutorial.)

As for what actually goes in the sequence, this is a larger conversation. But here’s my general recommendation:

  • Email 1: Welcome subscribers, introduce your brand, and tell your story.

  • Email 2: Highlight what makes you different from the competition. Show how you solve the reader’s problem!

  • Emails 3-4: Share something valuable with the reader, and make an offer or introduce your services.

You can always refine your sequence later, so don’t overthink it. The important thing is to take action and get it set up!

As always, I’m happy to help if you have any questions. Just reply to this email and let me know what you need.

Best,

Jono
