Proof That Your Business Needs More Reviews

Google and ChatGPT both love brands with positive customer reviews.

Hi reader,

I’ve talked before about how important customer reviews are for building trust. And trust is one of the biggest factors in why people choose to buy from you.

There’s even more to it than that, though. Sure, testimonials are great for your reputation and credibility, which is great. But did you know reviews also impact how easily people find your business?

Today’s advice to grow your business

Make asking for reviews a regular part of your process.

Most customers won’t leave a review unless you ask. Not because they don’t want to, but because it’s not something they think about on their own. That’s why it needs to be a built-in habit on your end.

Whether it’s after a purchase, a completed project, or a great customer interaction, find a consistent way to request reviews. The more you make it a routine, the more responses you’ll get, and the easier it becomes over time.

Here’s how this will benefit you

More reviews lead to better search engine visibility.

Check out this data from NP Digital. They found that companies with a high number of reviews (an average of 200) get around 717 website visitors per month, compared to just 194 visitors for brands with fewer reviews.

Search engines like Google use a lot of different factors to determine which businesses will rank, and some of them aren’t necessarily known. But most experts agree that both the volume and quality of reviews can significantly impact your rankings.

This is because search engines are constantly trying to serve the most relevant, trustworthy results to users. When a business has a high volume of reviews, it signals to the algorithm that the business is actively engaged with its customers and consistently providing value.

Positive reviews increase your chances of being recommended by ChatGPT.

The rise of AI has changed the way people find businesses online. Instead of relying on search engines alone, many users are now using tools like ChatGPT to ask for recommendations. So how do you get your business to show up in these recommendations? Having positive reviews is one of the key factors.

The same chart from NP Digital shows that ChatGPT is 256% more likely to recommend businesses with positive reviews (4.5 stars or higher). This means the more reviews you have and the better they are, the higher your chances of showing up in AI-generated recommendations. And that means more potential customers will find you, trust you, and consider doing business with you.

Your first step

Reach out to a recent customer and ask for a review.

If you haven’t already, choose a customer you’ve worked with recently and ask them for a review. Keep it simple and direct: let them know how much it would mean to you, and make it as easy as possible for them to leave feedback. It can be a simple email or even a phone call if you prefer.

The more you make this a regular habit, the more reviews you’ll get – and the better your chances of ranking higher in search results and getting recommended by ChatGPT.

Best,

Jono
