Picking Brand Colors Doesn’t Have to Be Hard

Overthinking your brand colors? Here’s how to make a choice that actually fits, without getting stuck.

Hi reader,

Before someone even reads a word on your website, they’re already forming an opinion. A big part of that comes down to color.

The colors you choose for your brand set the tone and shape how people see your business.

So how do you make a solid choice without it turning into a never-ending decision? Here’s what you need to know.

Today’s advice to grow your business

Choose brand colors that match who you are and what you do.

I see so many business owners waste too much time overthinking brand elements like colors, fonts, logos, etc. So yes, colors do affect the way people see your brand. But don’t overthink it… the most important thing is that your brand colors feel like a natural fit to you

A lot of industries tend to use the same colors because they create a certain feeling. For example:

  • Green is big in environmental and wellness brands since it’s tied to nature and health.

  • Blue is common in corporate and healthcare because it feels more professional.

  • Yellow has a friendly, upbeat vibe and works well for brands that want to feel fun and approachable.

But just because certain colors are common in an industry doesn’t mean you have to follow the pattern. If you’re drawn to a certain color because it represents your personality and the way you want your business to feel, go with it.

One last thing: remember that your brand will evolve. So there’s no use in stressing over getting these details exactly right. The most important thing is choosing something that feels like you and moving forward.

Here’s how this will benefit you

Your brand will feel more authentic and attract the right audience.

People connect with brands that feel real. Let’s say you run a wellness business built around calm and relaxation. If your website is full of bold reds and sharp contrasts, something will feel off to your audience, right? The wrong colors can send mixed signals and attract the wrong people.

When your colors match the experience you actually provide, customers instantly get a sense of what working with you will feel like. It creates consistency across your website, social media, and everything else, which makes your brand feel more professional and trustworthy. And trust = more sales!

You’ll avoid getting stuck in endless decisions.

I’ll admit, when I first started my business I spent way too long choosing a specific shade of orange. It’s easy to go down that road. But what helps me is remembering that no one else is analyzing your colors the way you are. What really matters is that your choices feel right and stay consistent.

Spending too much time on this decision doesn’t move your business forward. Instead of getting caught up in tiny details, make a choice based on what fits your brand’s personality and move on. You can always refine things later.

A color scheme won’t make or break your success, but wasting weeks debating it WILL slow you down.

Your first step

Take a step back and see if your brand colors really fit.

Whether you’re choosing colors for the first time or have been using the same ones for years, it’s always worth checking in. Do your colors still feel like you? Do they match the personality of your business and the experience you want to create for customers?

If something feels off, you might just need to adjust a shade or swap out a color that doesn’t quite fit. No need for a full rebrand…sometimes small changes make all the difference.

And if you’re just getting started, one tip I like to give is to use Pinterest for some inspiration. Look for pictures that feel like your band. If you start seeing the same colors pop up over and over, that’s a good sign they fit.

Remember, don’t overcomplicate it! Make a choice that feels right, and then put your energy into the things that actually grow your business.

Best,

Jono
