Logos are Overrated
A logo is not a brand. Let's talk about what really matters.
Hi reader,
There are a lot of factors that go into someone deciding they want to buy from you. Things like an easy-to-use website, quick customer service, or fair pricing.
Something that’s not on that list? Your company’s logo.
Today’s advice to grow your business
Don't waste time perfecting your logo.
I know that 20 years ago, your logo was everything. But times have changed. Since so much of the world is digital, logos are becoming less relevant.
In a lot of cases, a simple watermark with your business name is all you really need, especially when you're just starting out. Honestly, your time is much better spent on things that directly impact your profits. Focus your time on things like updating your website, creating valuable content, and nurturing your existing customers. Those are the things that will drive sales – not your logo.
Here’s how this will benefit you
You'll have more time to invest in activities that actually drive revenue.
It’s easy to go down the rabbit hole of logo design. You're stressing over whether to use a serif or sans-serif font, finding the perfect shade of blue, deciding if that icon really captures the essence of your brand...and before you know it, an entire afternoon is gone.
Think about all the things you could accomplish in that same amount of time! Things that actually help you reach more customers and drive sales. I know I say this a lot but remember, time is your most valuable resource. Spend it wisely.
You'll develop a stronger brand identity by focusing on the bigger picture.
Your brand is so much more than a logo. The definition of a brand is the consistent message of value you communicate to your ideal clients. By shifting your focus away from superficial details like your logo, you’ll be able to really hone in on improving this message of value.
Then, you can make sure every interaction your customers have with your business reinforces that message, from your website copy to your customer service to the quality of your products or services. That’s what will make your brand unforgettable.
Your first step
Ask yourself: "What is the consistent message of value I'm communicating to my ideal clients?"
Write down your answer. Then, take a look at your website, your marketing materials, your emails, etc. Is that message clearly and consistently conveyed across all those platforms? If not, it's time to get to work. This is what goes into building a strong brand – not designing a logo.

Best,
Jono
