Finding the Sweet Spot with AI Tools
AI can be a lifesaver for busy business owners who dread writing content. But there's a right way to use it.
Hi reader,
You know, I’m surprised I’ve made it this far into this newsletter without discussing the topic none of us can escape: AI.
Everyone has an opinion on it, and of course, it does warrant some discussion. But what I don’t want to do is launch into some lecture about my thoughts on how AI is changing everything…you all know that already.
Instead, I promise to let’s focus on what’s relevant to you. Let’s, talk about using AI tools to write content for your business.
Today’s advice to grow your business
Use AI writing tools strategically, and never rely on them completely.
ChatGPT is a major time-saver, especially for those of us who aren't naturally gifted writers. Using AI for things like generating outlines and getting suggestions can make the writing process way more efficient.
But there's a big difference between using AI to help you write and just letting it do all the work.
Those of us who use these tools daily can spot AI-written content from a mile away. And if your customers catch on, it’s going to damage your authenticity and their trust in your brand.
Here’s how this will benefit you
When used strategically, AI can save you a lot of time and headaches.
If you’re not a writer, AI can feel like a godsend for writing that next social media post or email. It’s a great tool for helping you generate ideas, create blog outlines, and even write first drafts in certain contexts.
That said, using AI is actually a bit of an art. You can’t just plug in a prompt and expect a perfect result. You need to know how to guide it, how to refine your requests, and how to mold the output just so. Once you’ve mastered that, it can save you hours of valuable time.
By not relying on it completely, you’ll stand out from the competition.
If you're just copying and pasting from ChatGPT, you're going to sound exactly like everyone else.
AI can't replicate your unique perspective, your personal experiences, or your brand's personality. Those are the things that make your business stand out and help you connect with your audience.
When you find that right balance, your content will have a personality that AI just can't replicate. And in a world where everyone's starting to sound the same, that's what will make you stand out.
Your first step
Try experimenting with different prompts using ChatGPT or Gemini
I’ve found that the more specific you can be, the better.
Here’s an example that my content team uses:
Provide a list of blog topic suggestions for a company that specializes in XYZ. For each idea, suggest 3 different titles.
The topics should be highly relevant to my target audience of [describe target audience] and I want to rank for the keyword [insert keyword].
Play around with different tones, styles, and formats. See how changing your prompts affects the output. The more you experiment, the better you'll become at guiding ChatGPT to produce the kind of content you need.
And remember, while AI is a great tool for certain tasks, it can't replace a professional writer. If you need help, just reach out.
Best,
Jono
