Don't Post on Social Media Just For the Sake of It

Posting more won’t grow your business...posting with purpose will.

Hi reader,

Most of you have probably had the universal experience of posting something on social media only to get zero engagement.

Social media platforms like Meta are sometimes the bane of my existence…We have no control over the algorithm, no say in what gets prioritized. But of course, it’s a necessary evil.

The thing is, your goal should never be to go viral. Because the number of people who see your content doesn’t guarantee sales. So let’s talk about what this means for you.

Today’s advice to grow your business

Rethink your approach using social media.

A lot of people treat social media like a numbers game. It can be kind of addicting trying to get as many likes/follows/reposts as possible. But does that really matter for your business?

Not really. Those numbers do NOT guarantee sales. Plenty of posts get tons of attention but lead to absolutely nothing. And even if going viral did equal success, you have no control over it. The algorithm decides what takes off and what gets buried.

So when you post, don’t do it to go viral. Or even worse, don't do it just because you feel like you should. The main purpose of social media should be to help you stay top of mind.

Your ideal customers might not need you today, but when they do, they should already know and trust you. This doesn’t happen from one viral post, but from showing up consistently and sharing value.

Here’s how this will benefit you

Take the stress out of social media.

A lot of business owners I talk to are so overwhelmed by social media. It takes a lot of time, effort, and a whole lot of guessing. It usually ends up feeling like just another chore in a long list of to-dos.

But if you shift your mindset, a lot of that stress disappears. You’re taking away that pressure to go viral or get a certain number of likes. Instead, all you have to do is deliver value to your ideal customer – and you know how to do that better than anyone else!

This change is honestly going to make your life so much easier.

Attract more customers (not just followers.)

When you stop worrying about vanity metrics, you can focus on adding value for your ideal customer. This will naturally attract the right people. They’ll see you as someone who knows what they’re talking about.

And when the time comes to hire someone or make a purchase, you’ll be the first one to come to mind.

Your first step

Plan a new post that adds value to your audience.

Think of one quick tip, idea, or piece of advice that would genuinely help your ideal customer – then post it. Don’t stress about making it perfect or getting tons of engagement. Just focus on providing value to the right people.

Once you do this, you can start thinking ahead. Consistency matters here, and the easiest way to stay consistent is to plan in advance. I recommend making an ongoing list of topics or common questions your customers ask. That way, you’re never scrambling for what to post about.

My hope is that this simple shift will make social media feel easier for you. Let me know what you think.

Best,

Jono
