570 Million People Use This to Shop
Most people overlook it, but Pinterest is a high-traffic platform with buying intent. Here's how to use it to your advantage.
Hi reader,
It’s easy to make assumptions about certain platforms.
We decide they’re not meant for someone like us, and we stop paying attention. Meanwhile, that very platform is pulling in millions of users every month and doing exactly what most businesses wish their marketing would do.
Today, we’re talking about a platform that’s been quietly making a comeback: Pinterest.
Today’s advice
Add Pinterest to your marketing toolbox.
Even though it’s been around for a while, Pinterest is becoming popular again thanks to Gen Z. It just hit 570 million monthly active users in the first quarter of this year, beating Wall Street expectations.
Most people think of Pinterest as a place for mood boards and meal plans, but it’s actually one of the few platforms people use with the intent to buy.
That’s because, unlike other platforms, people on Pinterest aren’t just scrolling—they’re searching. They come looking for inspiration, products, and solutions, and they’re often ready to act. It’s more like a visual search engine than a social feed.
Even better: you don’t need to create separate content for Pinterest. You can repurpose what you’re already posting on Instagram, sync it up, and start building a presence without a ton of extra work.
Why this matters
You’ll show up where people are actively searching.
Pinterest isn’t like Instagram or TikTok, where your content disappears into the void after 24 hours. It honestly works more like a search engine than a social platform.
Someone could find a pin you posted last month (or last year) just because they searched for something related to your business. If you want to show up when people are already looking for what you offer, this is the place to be.
You can share links without getting punished for it.
Most platforms these days bury posts that include links. But on Pinterest, every image is a clickable link. Each image you post can drive traffic directly to your website, no extra steps required.
No need to “link in bio” or bury it in the comments. Just send people straight to where you want them to go.
Here’s how to start
Sync your Instagram content to Pinterest
If you’re already posting to Instagram, you’ve already got content that can work on Pinterest. You can manually upload posts or use a scheduling tool to cross-post automatically. Boom — no extra work for you!
Otherwise, start small. Think about what visuals you have…it could be photos of your work, graphics you use for your blog, product shots, etc. You can turn any of those into Pins. Just upload them to Pinterest, add a short caption, and include a link back to your website or lead form.
The goal is just to start showing up. Once you get in the habit, it’s easy to build momentum without adding a bunch of extra work to your plate.
Best,
Jono
